When the going gets tough, the tough get going. The spirit of BEST was magnified at the place where BEST was born. Yes, you heard it right, BEST Stockholm rocked with a new milestone tekBEC It was a proud moment for every BESTie of Stockholm. Look through the personal diary of any member oof BEST Stockholm or even look into diary of the participants of tekBEC, it is probably colour red with fantabulous moments on the days of 17th and 18th of February -tekBEC 2011 (Kunngliga Tekniska Högskolans BEST Engineering Competition)

As the legendary event kicked off, students from different cultures, countries, backgrounds, departments of KTH, Royal Institute of Technology, competed in two categories, Team Design and Case Study, for a chance to go to Trondheim for nordBEC, the Nordic BEST Engineering Competition and too feel the tekBEC fever.

On February 17, 2011, after welcome speeches by the Vice President of BEST Stockholm and the Main Organizer of tekBEC 2011, four teams competing in the Case Study Category started working on the task provided by BEST Stockholm. It was a case on “Outsourcing”, which represents one of the most frequent and most challenging tasks in major industries. Acting as a CEO of an imaginary Swedish company, each team had to o decide for the company how to proceed in the eir further development or the strategy. After almost 4 hours of hard work and fun, frolic great ideas were born which were translated into wonderful presentations. The winning team of the Case Study Competition consisted of four international master students, who came up with a very solid presentation. The presentation was easy to follow, logical and hitting the core of the problem straight away. They compared their case to similar markets and were thinking out of the box. This gave them a big plus and they persuaded the jury of their simple, clean and realistic approach.

tekBEC 2011 LBG Stockholm

On February 18, 2011, after the welcome speech by the president the Main Organiser of tekBEC 2011, the team design task was presented by the Team Design responsible of tekBEC 2011. It was the time for techno geeks, and 7 teams tried to build a “Laptop Driven Fan, which spreads a smile through their contraptions” In a nutshell, they had to build a fan
from the give materials which driven by energy from the laptop. Further, the fan had to drive a smiley ball through the contraption. The contraption design was open to their creativity and aesthetics. Right from start the teams were very dynamic and energetic to brainstorm about the task. The magic started, and every team was so involved in the task
and everyone was behind the smiley ball. After almost 4 hours, all the teams presented their Team Design ideas to the jury. The Winning team of the Team Design Competition consisted of four international master students, who came up with a creative flawless design. After the event everyone had a dinner followed by a chill out at traditional BEST sauna, our historical paradise. The paradise where BEST was born. The paradise where BEST evolves. The paradise of BEST Stockholm.

On February 21, 2011, the most awaited Moment of tekBEC 2011, the Award Ceremony, blossomed by the presence of the participants and the members of BEST Stockholm. The winning teams of the event were announced, and their first steps towards nordBEC were prepared, where they will have another BEST experience.
